Introducing the Siemens KG39MT90, an intelligent, RFID-powered fridge/freezer
I must have it!
No, unfortunately you won´t find it at your favorite fridge retailer. And I am pretty sure that the designers and developers from Siemens were also pretty surprised when they saw the below video.

Hacking the refrigerator
So what actually happened?
Kim Otto (IOLite, Innovation Lab) from Denmark took one Siemens KG39MT90 refrigerator, replaced its built-in 15 inch flat screen with a Postallo PC powered touch panel, added a BETA Technic RFID reader and an RFID antenna. Then some copper coil here and some PragmaSoft web software there and - voila - one of the world´s intelligent RFID powered fridge was born.
Is it functional or it´s a kind of joke?
The new fridge is fully functional and even though the signal recognition range doesn´t exceed 22 cm yet, the result is very promising.
