NFridge - be your own fridge designer

Recently, Electrolux came up with very interesting fridge design idea. Instead of pimping up the design of a standard (large) refrigerator over and over again, Electrolux engineers split the appliance into several smaller compartments.

These mini-fridges (called Nfridges) are fully independent from each other and use the “green” magnetic refrigeration method which, I hope, will soon replace all currently used ozone-depleting technologies.

They can be stacked on each other or placed next to each other so that you practically design you fridge yourself based on the space available in your kitchen, you current needs or just emotional state of mind.

Let s hope that this invention once leaves the Electrolux labs and will be introduced to the mass market as well.

Anke Salomon´s 2004 refrigerator concept - rearrange your fridge´s inner space

Anke Salomon is German designer who´s Refrigerator Project was a “honorably mentioned product” (means not the winner but one of the most interesting among 2000+ projects that took part) of the Electrolux Design Lab in 2004.

The refrigerator is a long and flat object fastened horizontally onto the wall. As the foodstuff can only be stored next to each other and not behind, the user never really looses overview over what´s in the fridge.

The food in the freezer compartment can be protected against falling out by several rubber bands and there is also a thermometer strip spanning through both compartments with several sensors to show the exact temperature in particular part of the compartment.

These designer fridge has five doors that can slide up and down independently. As for the inner space, the refrigerator and freezer compartments have adjustable volumes since the divider wall can be placed in 4 different positions allowing user to rearrange the refrigerator so that it fits his/her requirements the best.

A really nice designer refrigerator project so let´s hope that Electrolux will be able to turn it to some commercially successful model sometime in the future.
